Some of us know World Bank senior economist David Evans for his amazing ability to review lots of papers in short sentences. One of his conference roundup posts with Markus Godstein & Anna Popova of 48 papers Conflict and Fragility in Africa has been nominated for an award for best of internet writing of 2015 (not in economics, out of ALL OF THE INTERNET). Anybody can vote. (There was also an interview on his 300+ reviews of African novels on Amazon, with some of his favorites). How does he do it all? We may have discovered his secret....
Duncan Green has posted the manuscript for his new book "How Change Happens" online, looking for comments.
A number of political science journals have signed on to new transparency requirements for papers, such as making data publicly available, to start in January. This is relatively straightforward for people whose data is machine-readable, but a number of qualitative researchers have pointed out that this may pose significant barriers for them (including definition of replicability, for example, or the possibility of rich description inadvertently identifying participants). A large group of researchers has signed a petition asking the editors to delay implementing them until this can be sorted out.
