QUOTE OF THE DAY

“I’m going to be totally honest with you. I completely deserve this” - Shonda Rhimes during her acceptance speech at the Producers Guild Awards over the weekend. Humble. Brag.

DO YOU WANT TO BUILD A SNOWMAN?

THE STORY

Over the weekend, the East Coast went stir crazy.

WHAT HAPPENED?

A blizzard named Jonas. The massive snowstorm closed major highways, canceled thousands of flights, and killed at least 30 people across the country. Parts of the Jersey Shore saw major flooding - with one town’s mayor saying the storm was worse than Hurricane Sandy. Baltimore and New York City saw more than two feet of snow, while DC and Philadelphia were also rolling in the deep. In DC, the House of Representatives  canceled voting until next week. West Virginia got hit the worst with snow, with some areas seeing about 42 inches. Cue a university swim team turning the snow into its pool.

This was one of the worst US snowstorms in decades. And a lot of cities are still cleaning up the mess. Or just making snow angels.

REPEAT AFTER ME...

WHAT TO SAY TO YOUR CO-WORKER WHO’S POPPING ADVIL AT HER DESK…

Who were you rooting for? Yesterday the AFC and NFC championship games went down, aka the final rose ceremony for the Super Bowl. And the Denver Broncos and Carolina Panthers were the lucky ladies. In the AFC championship, the Broncos beat the New England Patriots in a game that was thiiiiis close. But the Broncos’ big D - defense - managed to deflate the Patriots’ balls in the end. The NFC game was less of a nail-biter, with the Panthers beating the Arizona Cardinals 49-15. Now, the Broncos and the Panthers are headed to hang out with Bey at the Super Bowl in two weeks. TBD on who run the world.

WHAT TO SAY AFTER WATCHING TINA FEY DO HER BEST PALIN ON SNL

Who wants to play Michael Bloomberg? Over the weekend, it came out that the former NYC mayor is eyeing a presidential run. Again. Bloomberg’s apparently been thinking about running for a while, but didn’t think he could win. But now that it looks like Donald Trump could be the GOP nominee, and Bernie Sanders has been gaining on Hillz, Bloomberg thinks he might have an opening. If he runs, he’s reportedly  willing to spend $1 billion of his own cash. And he’ll be doing it as Miss Independent. Bloomberg - who’s been registered as a Democrat and a Republican in the past - switched to Independent in ’07, and he has a rep for leaning left on issues like gun control. He reportedly gave himself until early March to decide ‘to run or not to run?’ So this is just the tip of the Bloomberg.

WHAT TO SAY WHEN YOUR CAR IS BURIED IN SNOW…

Time to break free. That’s what three California inmates said when they escaped from a maximum security jail over the weekend. They cut through steel bars, crawled through plumbing tunnels, rappelled off a roof, and did their best “Mission Impossible” impressions. They were in jail on charges like murder and kidnapping. Now, a manhunts under way, with a prize of $50,000 for any info on them. Meanwhile, El Chapo and his silk shirts  are suffering jealousy pangs.

WHAT TO SAY TO YOUR FRIEND WHOS PLANNING HER BABY MOON

Maybe avoid El Salvador. Women there have been advised to stop getting pregnant until 2018, in reaction to the spread of the Zika virus. Zika virus: comes from a mosquito bite, and includes symptoms like fever, a rash, and joint pain. It’s especially dangerous for pregnant women, since it can also cause birth defects. Recently, the virus has spread through Latin America and the Caribbean. Which is why the US has put out an alert, urging pregnant women to postpone travel to countries like Brazil, Barbados, Colombia, and El Salvador. Cases have also been confirmed in the US, and  US health officials have said that they’re working on developing a vaccine. Good idea.
