QUOTE OF THE DAY

“Super rude customer” - Tesla CEO Elon Musk’s reason for canceling an order from a guy who posted something critical about him. No Tesla soup for you.

IT TAKES TWO

THE STORY

Tonight, Fmr. Sec. of State Hillary Clinton and Sen. Bernie Sanders (VT) are going out on a debate

HAVEN’T THEY BEEN SEEING A LOT OF EACH OTHER RECENTLY?

Yup. This debate - at 9pm ET on MSNBC - comes days after the Iowa Caucuses, which was the first big election event of the year. Hillz won, but was thiiiis close to getting Berned. Now, they’re both in New Hampshire before the state’s primary next week.

SO WHAT WILL THEY TALK ABOUT?

TBD. Last night, they met at a town hall (the off-Broadway of debates). They mostly argued over who’s more progressive. Tonight, they’ll probably take on some light topics like Super PACs. Because Bernie says he’s super stoked about not having one. Financial reform. Because Bernie thinks Hillz is too deep in Wall Street’s pockets , while Hillz says she’d actually be way tougher on big banks than he would. Gun control. Because that’s a key issue for Dem voters — and one where Bernie’s had to play defense on his record.

ANYTHING ELSE?

Hello, from the GOP side. Sen. Rand Paul (KY) dropped out of the race. So did Fmr. Sen. Rick Santorum (PA). Fmr. Gov.  Jeb Bush (TX) is just asking people to please clap for him. And Donald Trump, who finished second in Iowa, is asking for a do-over. But he might have to settle for a comb-over.

Everyone thought this was Hillary’s year to grab the Democratic nom, but America’s not feeling so hot on traditional politicians lately. Now, all eyes are on NH. And it’s a state where Hillz isn’t the frontrunner.

REPEAT AFTER ME...

WHAT TO SAY TO YOUR FRIEND WHO’S PLANNING HER BABY SHOWER…

Make it a dry party. The CDC has a memo for women: stay sober unless you’re using birth control. That’s because they say millions of women in the US are drinking and having unprotected sex. Which means if they get pregnant, their babies have a higher risk of getting fetal alcohol disorders. There’s an ongoing debate about how much, if any, alcohol is safe to drink while you’re preggers, but the CDC says it’s better to be safe than sorry. Actual buzzkill. Meanwhile, in other news that concerns the XX chromosome set, Brazil might be rethinking its strong anti-abortion stance. Reminder: Brazil is being hit hard with the Zika virus, a mosquito-borne virus that appears to be linked to a birth defect. It’s illegal to get an abortion under most circumstances in Brazil, but the rise of this birth defect has started a debate about whether or not the country should rethink that. And back in the US, this morning Florida Gov. Rick Scott declared a state of emergency in four counties where nine people have been diagnosed with the Zika virus. All of them got it outside the US, but Scott says he wants the state to be ready if the virus starts spreading from mosquito to person there.

WHAT TO SAY WHEN YOUR PARENTS KICK YOU OFF THE FAMILY PHONE PLAN…

This was a long time coming. Yesterday, 92-year-old Sumner Redstone stepped down as executive chairman of CBS. You might know Redstone as the media mogul who’s at the top of the food chain at both CBS and Viacom. Or you might know him from that Vanity Fair article your friend sent you last year. For the past few years, Redstone’s been in poor physical health. Then his former girlfriend filed a  lawsuit that challenged his mental health. So there have been a lot of questions about whether he should keep his day job. CBS CEO Les Moonves is taking over his position, and it looks like the writing is on the wall for a similar shake-up at Viacom. The board there is expected to meet today. But investors are already pretty excited about the change - shares of CBS and Viacom both surged.

WHAT TO SAY WHEN YOUR CO-WORKER SHOWS UP HUNGOVER…

You’re a hot mess. Just like the Syrian peace talks, which fell apart yesterday. Refresher: Syria’s in the middle of a five-year civil war. There’s Team President Assad, backed by Iran and Russia, and Team moderate rebels, backed by the US and friends. And then there’s ISIS - which everybody hates. The UN recently invited government forces and moderate rebels to kiss and make up at a meeting in Geneva.  But during the peace talks, pro-Assad forces weren’t feeling so peaceful. They launched a major attack to try and recapture a key city. The UN called for a ceasefire, but Russia said ‘no thanks.’ The UN took this as a cue to suspend peace talks until the end of the month. Great job, team.

WHAT TO SAY WHEN SOMEONE ASKS WHY YOU LOOK SO MAD…

Idk, ask a scientist.

THING TO KNOW

World Cancer Day: The reason some of your co-workers are wearing purple today. It’s an annual event to encourage cancer prevention and treatment. Because F cancer.
